Piedmont PAINTS Grants $36,200 to PUSD for the 2017-2018 Academic School Year

PAINTS is excited to award a total of $36,200 in grants to Piedmont Unified School District (PUSD) for the 2017-18 academic year for arts education programs and special projects.  

PAINTS is funding $20,968 in Art Program Grants at $8 per student for art materials for TK-12th Grades.  The non-profit organization continues to support Lunchtime Art once a week at the three elementary schools with a $6,000 grant.  PAINTS is also providing $2,500 in grants to District Libraries ($500 per library), the first year that Piedmont Middle School Library and Piedmont High School Library have received PAINTS grants. In addition, PAINTS is supporting District Art Shows and Events with a $750 grant.

PAINTS is pleased to award $5,982 in Art Project Grants to support eleven special art projects for classrooms and clubs at each school throughout the Piedmont Unified School District. The projects being funded in this grants cycle include the following:

  • Lydia Adams – Havens Elementary Kindergarten ($495) Concentric Circles Paintings

  • Janine Morton – Havens Elementary 4th Grade Language Arts ($640) in partnership with classroom parents and Havens principal fund ($600) Berkeley Repertory Theater’s Story Builders Workshop (six sessions for each of three classes)

  • Katie Jepsen – Havens Elementary 4th Grade Social Studies ($256) California Native American woven basket materials

  • Christine Hanson – Wildwood Elementary 2nd Grade Social Studies ($400) Large weaving loom and materials

  • Martin Lewis – Wildwood Elementary 4th Grade Social Studies ($256) California Native American woven basket materials (two year supply)

  • Raminder Sidhu – Piedmont Middle School 6th Grade Mathematics ($420) “Build Your Own Business” Project Graphic Design Specialist (six classes)

  • Michael Bracamonte – Piedmont Middle School 7th Grade Core ($300)  Tour of David DeRoche’s African Art and Artifacts (8 classes)

  • Gina McKuen – Piedmont Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Drama Classes ($515) in partnership with Piedmont Middle School Parents Club ($410) Costumes and Props for Drama 7-8 (Fall) and Shakespearean Drama 8 (Spring)

  • Kammy Cobb – Piedmont Middle School, Piedmont High School, Millennium High School Embodied Art Circle After School Club ($650) in partnership with Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee ($350); Transformative Process Art Specialist and Painting Materials

  • Janine Sohn – Piedmont High School 9th Grade World Cultures Elective ($1200) Infographics Project Graphic Design Specialist

  • Gillian Bailey – Piedmont High School Proposed Photography Class in 2018-19 ($850) – Refurbished Digital Camera and warranty

PAINTS is also grateful for the collaboration of Piedmont Makers, Piedmont Middle School Parents Club, Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee (PADC) and Piedmont Asian American Club (PAAC) in giving grants this year. To support the continuation of high quality art programs in our schools, please consider making a donation to PAINTS at www.piedmontstore.com and celebrating arts in our schools at PAINTS’ annual fundraiser, “The Big Art Party”, on March 10 and “The Big Art Show” from March 2-11 at Piedmont Center for the Arts.

The Big Art Show will feature Piedmont’s community of artists. PAINTS encourages artists with original 2D and 3D artwork to apply. A Call for Art is open now through February 9 at www.piedmontpaints.org. Half of the proceeds for art sales will go directly to support art education at PUSD and the other half to the artist. There will also be a separate “Call for Kids’ Art” through the elementary schools. PAINTS is excited to bring the local art community together in supporting art education
